Fitness on Friday

I am super proud of myself, I ran 5 miles on Monday, this 1/2 marathon business is getting pretty serious. I think I will make up my mind to go for it once I ran 10 miles, I am half way there. Saturday I am going for a 5K race. I thought it would be a good build up to go for something competitive. I want a trophy sooo bad, I am really getting behind on cross training, I need to start doing more strength training and all….hope you have a good weekend, I am off today, yippee!!

Watching What You Eat Wednesday – Salads Edition

I do not make Salads a lot but I like to eat them, I am going to share a simple one from my Sonoma Diet Cookbook.

Chicken-Orange Salad

1 10 ounce package torn mixed salad greens
8 ounces cooked chicken breast, cut into bite-size pieces
1/3 cup bottled vinaigrette salad dressing
1 11 ounce can mandarin orange sections, drained
4 tablespoons sliced almonds, toasted

In a large bowl combine greens and chicken.
Add salad dressing; toss to coat.
Divide greens mixture among four salad plates.
Top with mandarin orange sections and almonds.
Serve immediately.
Enjoy, sounds simple and easy!!

3 Different Kenyans

It is very interesting to me to watch my fellow Kenyans running in the Olympics.  The interesting part about it is the way they are so very different???. The last race I watched, I think it was the 1500 meters, there were 3 Kenyans running for 3 different  countries.  One of them has even changed his name!!!  It must be pretty lucrative to run for another country.  Funny story, one Kenyan who rans for another country got a rude shock when he was denied entry to his beloved home country, because he did not have a visa.

I will make my question super super easy…since I love food, please tell me in this order.   ( I have my answers after the questions)

1. Favorite food

My favorite food is Farmers Choice sausages, this are beef or pork sausages that are found in Kenya, they are soooo good (please someone hook me up?  I will pay anything for them), when I went home after 3 years, guess what I ate first, sausages, and I paid a pretty penny for them.

2. Favorite place to eat and why

I know this is going to surprise many, but my favorite place to eat is Cracker Barrel, and the reason why, is that we eat at Cracker Barrel anytime we travel and I usually have good memories when we travel so Cracker Barrel becomes the winner by association.  But I like many restaurants though.

3. Worst Place to eat.

Sorry, Waffle house fans, but I just do not like Waffle house, I went in there one day for breakfast and decided from that day forward, I will never go back.  It just did not go well with me.

Fitness on Friday

 Fitness on Friday

Even if I do not run this 1/2 marathon, I can proudly say that training for it has really gotten me moving. I have run a total of 10 miles this week. Today we had an incident at work and so we were let go early and I decided to go and do my 4 miles run. 4 miles makes 2 miles look so easy, I cannot wait for the next physical fitness test which includes a 2 miles run. I did my 4 miles in 41 minutes which I thought was pretty impressive for having ran 4 miles for the first time in my life. The scale is going up and I am consoling myself that it is lean weight and not fat weight, and lean weight is heavier 🙂 I hope you had a good Friday.
