Today’s Fun Monday is hosted by Jill. She wants us to tell us about chores. I cannot believe that talking about something I don’t like very much could be so much fun, maybe it is a kind of venting. My least favorite chore used to be doing laundry by hand, I had to wash jeans and the like by hand and I HATED it.    It would take me almost a whole day to wash clothes for just the two of us.    It was taking too much time out of my life, so, I found someone who would come in and wash them for us and we pay her.  I loved her to death.  Then we moved here, and now just walking to the laundry room is becoming difficult. How lazy I have become. My least favorite chore now is ironing, I do not like ironing. I try as much as I can to buy clothes that I do not have to iron. I’d rather wash the bathroom than iron a shirt. My husband has been kind to me, he irons his own clothes.

Head over to Jill’s and read all about chores, should be fun.  Have a great Monday.

  1. I have one of those steam cycles on my dryer — so if something needs ironing I usually cheat and throw it in there.

BUT.. you have to get there when the bell rings or it wrinkles again.

I can’t imagine washing things by hand. I vaguely remember watching my grandmother use a scrub board for a few things. I’ve heard people say that clothes are cleaner the old fashion way.
I’m not so curious to try it, tho.

  2. I love a man who does the ironing, I don’t like it either! I can’t imagine washing clothes by hand, I know people have done so for hundreds of years, but it would take forever! Thanks for playing.

  3. Hi Grace,
I do not mind doing the laundry now that our washer and dryer are on the same level. However, the chore was more difficult when the washer and dryer were in the basement. Plus, I hated going to the laundromat when we lived in apartment without laundry facilities. I can imagine doing the whole laundry by hand must be quite a chore.

  4. I rather like doing laundry, but if I had to do it by hand, I know I’d feel differently! I don’t do much ironing either – which is okay because I almost never wear things that need ironing! I look at doing the laundry as a chance to catch up on my DVR!

  5. yes Pamela, clothes are much much cleaner when they are washed by hand and I think we would save on the water too. But it was a hard job and I do not miss it a single bit.

  6. Laundry is a chore we all have to do…thank goodness for a washer n dryer…I never had to wash clothes by hand except for a few small things..but I did without a dryer for years…I hung everything outside on a clothes line. I actually liked doing that…everything smelled so fresh n clean. I also try to buy clothes that will not need ironing…I hate it! I am hosting next week so come on over wed to sign up!

  7. I didn’t bother about ironing, I put on the TV and ironed like a robot. But now, since we are not working anymore I only buy stuff which doesn’t need to be ironed at all ! I can’t even remember when I did this for the last time, lol !

  8. When I got married, I had NEVER ironed or done laundry. I was OK with washing all our laundry in the bathtub with a plunger, but I remember spending 5 hours trying to iron my husband’s white dress shirt while he was at work. Our land lady found me in tears when she brought down some mail, and took pity on me. She spent the next hour teaching me how to iron a man’s shirt PERFECTLY. I can now do it in four minutes flat, though I haven’t had to in quite a few years–only for Weddings and Funerals now (which are getting more frequent as the years go by.) When Sayre & John were babies, one of my greatest joys was hanging up a line full of diapers in the breezy sunshine, listening to the crows high in the pine trees, and watching my babies play on a blanket in the shade. Thanks for the memories.
