Today’s Fun Monday is hosted by Molly. She wants us to share a memory from childhood. I have many fun childhood memories and one which sticks with me was when we would go to Mombasa for vacation (we called it holiday) by overnite train. That was so much fun, just sleeping in the train as it moved. It was like sleeping while it was raining. Mombasa was always fun! good food and good times! Another fond memory was going to the Drive In to watch movies…Oh, how I loved those! My dad loved to take us to watch movies and I remember watching “Banana Joe”! Head over to Molly’s and read about childhood memories!
Today, February 26th, I ran my 1st Half Marathon (Applause!!) Monica and I have been training for the last 10 weeks or so and today, was the Dday!! My goal was to run 11 minute miles (144 minutes) I came in in 150 minutes, (must have been the two potty breaks). I am so proud of myself for having completed it!! I am so thankful for Monica, for being there to train with every saturday morning and for running the race with me. I am thankful for Amy, for training with us the first few weeks and even though she hurt her foot and the doctor told her she cannot run this time, she still hang out with us, encouraging us and she was our cheerleader from the beginning of the race to the end. I am thankful for Sharon, (you are still part of our team) Thank you for coming out early to cheer us on and cheering for us from the beginning of the race to the end. To both of you, the signs were awesome and the flowers were a sweet beautiful surprise. With friends like Monica, Sharon and Amy, I was definately set for success! Thanks to Sila for coming and bringing the kids! Thanks to all the volunteers, they do make a difference!
I have been watching too many reality shows, I am on Team Russell on Survivor, I want the Cowboys to win in Amazing Race but I am think they are being cut since they can’t figure out that puzzle thing, I love Naima on American Idol and of course, Idol needs to come to town through Lauren…at least this time, we wont have to hang on a phone forever, this year we get to vote online.
2 days to the half marathon and nyquil is my friend! Not good!!
Yay, I received a $110.00 P&G coupon book today, so exciting… I also received a signed copy of Bill Gracey’s CD…yes, the COO also sings and has a CD!!
I have had so many great road trips and a few interesting ones. There was one which we (Sila, Jason, Gurney and I) took the overnight train from Nairobi to Mombasa, we left Nairobi in the evening and half way there, another train had derailed and since they share railroad at some point, we could not go anywhere and we stayed at that spot for like 6 hours. Luckily it was an overnight train so we had beds and they fed us. We reached Mombasa the next day in the evening, a 24 hours train ride!!
One of the best road trips ever was when we went to 3 different National parks in Kenya…we went to Aberdare (spent one of the nights at Noah’s Ark) Amboseli and finally we saved the best for last, Mt Kenya National Park. It was at this road trip that I acquired my first pet!
Apparently, in Mt Kenya National Park, there is a dress code for dinner. Yes, you are not allowed to wear jeans to dinner. We did not have any dress clothes!! The head waiter allowed us in to eat the dinner we had paid for! It was a fun road trip!!
I listen to ALL kinds of music, I love Christian Music, Michael W. Smith and Chris Rice (Deep enough to reach out and touch the face of the One who made me” ) are my top Christian musicians, I like something upbeat like Taio Cruz and Apondi (I had to plug that in), country music makes me laugh, yes, Taylor Swift is funny and I like Dionne Warwick kind of music. I think Esperanza Spalding has some interesting music, never heard of her until she won the grammy and the little I have heard, sounds good to me. What music cheers you up?
