3 posts in 3 days!!!

fun 084 3 posts in 3 days!!! Jackpot!
As I said in my last post, the half marathon is coming in less than a month. The snowarmageddon did really mess me up and took away important training days. I could easily join a no-contract gym but running on a treadmill is not just the same as pounding the pavement, it is more like a bridge to nowhere… I have only one month to get serious with this. I remember one time I woke up on a Saturday morning and did a 100 km bike-a-thon, just like that! but then again, that was long ago and I was young and was 30 pounds lighter too! Have you ever woken up and ran a race without training? Keep the faith and have an awesome week!

Women’s History Month

The prompt for today on NaBloPoMo is:
It’s Women’s History Month. There has been so many important women who have shaped the world. Who do you immediately think of when you think about women (past or present) who bring about change?

There are many women who have brought about good change, but the one who I would like to write about in this post is the late Professor Wangari Maathai.
– She was an environmental and political activist. I remember when she would literally stand on land that was going to be ‘grabbed’ because someone wanted to build a skyscrapper on it. She literally saved Uhuru Park.
– She founded the Green Belt Movement(GBM) which focused on planting trees. To-date the GBM has assisted women in planting more than 40 million trees on community farms.
– She was the first African woman to receive a Nobel Peace prize for her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace in 2004.
– She was the first woman in East and Central Africa to earn a doctorate.
– She passed away in September 2011.

Which woman do you think of?

March!!!

fun 202fun 079
I cannot believe it is March! Baby girl hits double digit and the boy is almost there too! February was a crazy month! The snow had us home for 5 school days! It was actually fun spending time with my kids, we could not go anywhere, as I write, more than 10 days later, I still have snow on my yard.
This is the half-marathon month. As usual, snow always interferes with my training, but snow has never been known to stop me. The goal is actually to finish, but it would be nice to beat my brother’s and my cousin’s time…something like 2 hours! We shall see.
The job has been going well, I have seen great improvement in my students, I take it one day at a time and encourage them to aim high and not to settle! World view?
I hope you are keeping warm and keep looking up!
